It’s been ages synth we spoke...

Exciting news from the Larry the News Guy camp.

We’ve got the tent up, and enough gas to cook bacon for everyone.

But away from our holiday plans, we’ve been working on what the youth of today might bally well call ‘Choons’. Believe me, they are phat n’that, wotwot.

There are two words firmly etched on my brain from my formative years of listening to and collecting Queen records. Album upon album, May and Mercury maintained their sleeve-note mantra...

“No synthesizers”

As a result, I grew to believe that synthesizers were naughty, wrong, and to blame for a lot of the bad in the world.

I can now bring you breaking news. As much as I love them, turns out Freddie and the boys were mistaken all along. Because I seem to be infatuated with the synths on our single ‘The Thrill of the Night’. Jo The Drummer Boy now has a fight on his hands to stop me demanding a cover of West End Girls.

You’ll be able to hear the said synths at our single launch - planned for the end of November....

Jo: ‘Erm, dunno. Some people have so much to say, but so much of it’s bulls**t.’

Loz: ‘That’s true. But I can’t really claim to be any different.’

Jo: ‘Don’t say anything if it isn’t worth saying.’

Jo: ‘Well, now you come to mention it, I have a 1000 metres swimming certificate, but no philosophy qualification.’

Loz: ‘1000 metres? That’s quite impressive actually. Are you Michael Phelps in disguise? If so, you have nice pecs.’

Jo: ‘Why thank you, but no, I’m not Michael Phelps.’

Loz: ‘Ok good. Lets talk music shall we?’

Jo: ‘Why ruin a perfectly intriguing blog spot...?’

Loz: ‘Should I not mention then, that at this precise moment, you and I should be working on our single “Thrill of the Night”?’

Jo: ‘What a seamless link, you should work in Radio.’

Loz: ‘Chortle chortle.’

Summer Larrying

It’s Wednesday the 16th of July.

The day before my birthday as it happens.

Can’t believe I’m already 20.

At the moment, Jo and I are working on some recordings, which is a lot of fun - Jo plays creative director - “more anger”, he cries, over and over until I’m furious anyway...

We’re aiming to release a single in September, and do all the things that surround that. The song’s called “Thrill of the Night” - all that’s left to do is for us to write it. No jest.

So at the moment I’m reading some really interesting books. As well as re-reading one of my favourites - Paulo Coehlo’s Veronica Decides to Die - I’m also perusing Christopher Hitchin’s God Is Not Great, Neale Donald Walsch’s Conversations with God, and Rob Bell’s Velvet Elvis.

They should repackage them all into a box set - How To Get So Very Confused About Your Place In The World.

Gee, that’s better.

Since returning from the 2008 Dart Music Festival, I have resolved the following:

1. Learn how to make great pasties. This is very important.
2. Drink less Scrumpy. This is less important.
3. Return for Dart Music Fest 2009, hopefully.

The Dart Music Festival 2008

So, fairly damn excited I am.

On Weds 14th May, I’m making my way down south once again for the Dartmouth Music Festival.

It’ll be my 5th time there, the 3rd time performing, my 2nd time as a solo artist, and my 1st time under ‘Larry the News Guy’. That’s some neat maths.

Last year was brilliant, and I had a fantastic time playing at Bakers Wine Bar on the Sunday afternoon. This time round, I’ll be outside at the Market Tavern on the Saturday afternoon, and in the Yacht Club on the Sunday.

If you’ve never tried the Dart Music Festival before, then be sure to give it a go one year. Dartmouth is one of the most beautiful places in the UK, and it’s easy to make a week long holiday out of a 4 day festival!
